On our way to Sedona, we drove I-40 from Checotah to Flagstaff. This path closely follows the course of the old Route 66. Route 66 was the source of life and abundance for the small towns along its path. We stopped in Tucumcari and Santa Rosa, New Mexico to experience the old " Mother Road". There are old famous places that were on the old Route 66 that still exist. These towns and business used to be booming when Route 66 still existed. Now they are just a lonely reminder of what was a thriving place that was full of life and abundance before I-40 bypassed these towns for the sake of speed and convenience.
The reason for the bypass and building of I-40 was to accommodate our need to pursue the "busy life". We could now bypass the towns and get somewhere faster. But we lost the chance to abide in the beauty of a slower pace these unique towns. What was also lost was the vine that brought life and a abundance to these small towns. Even though the new road was close, People just quit stopping and the source of life just passed by.
The result over the years has been devastating. Tucumcari and Santa Rosa are just shells of their former selves. Tucumcari was "ghostly ". It made me think how devastating it is when the "source" is no longer connected. The life blood of these towns was Route 66. When it was removed the town lost its life source and all that is left is a skeleton. Ironically, I-40 still runs very near these towns, just not through them. Just a slight removal from the source and the change is huge.
This makes me think of how much we are affected if we a slightly separated from our source of power. When we aren't ABIDING closely we will suffer and fall into disrepair. John 15:5 states... apart from (God) We can do nothing! We can not let our pursuit of a busy life draw us away from our source of life and abundance.
